Food of Udaipur

I recently visited Udaipur, the city of lakes, and I completely enjoyed my trip. There is something about that city which attracts thousands of people every year. According to me, it's their food which is the most attracting thing about the place. Of course, the architecture is simply amazing. But what good is this amazing architecture when the food inside is not up to the mark? The city is filled with good street food, and by good, I mean sanitary and healthy street food. Not something which we are habitual to here in Delhi.

My first experience was the worst as I went with the choice of cab drivers and auto drivers. They all recommended Jhoomar Restaurant, which sounds quite good. But as I arrived at that place, I was appalled by what I saw. It was a big place with some artificial grass on the floor and patio furniture. We sat down and ordered the food, which took half an hour to come. So this raised our expectations. We thought maybe the food is good, so we ignored the ambiance and feel of the place and concentrated on the quality of the food. After half an hour, the food arrived, and it depressed us even more. It was not at all good, to say the least. Everything we ordered was below average and nothing looked appealing. And the worst part was, they marketed it as "Delhi food". I don't know why other cities compare their food to Delhi's food. It's foolish to compare two different cuisines and this comparison is utterly false.

After such a disappointing experience, we had lost hopes about the food in Udaipur. But to our rescue, came one of the Ola cab drivers and he guided us to everything nice in Udaipur. After this, we tried Krishna Restaurant, which serves really good, if not authentic, Daal Baati Choorma. It was a place flooded with people, unlike Jhoomar which only had us. The food they served was really amazing. The daal was delicious, the baati was amazing and the choorma stole the show. It's a sweet dish which they serve in Rajasthan, and it was exactly what we needed after a heavy lunch. It was not too sweet and tasted really really good. And this is how Udaipur regained its lost trust.

After this experience, our love for Udaipur grew more and more, as we explored some of the best places there. One of the good experiences was Rajwada Bites. Rajwada Bites is a Rajasthani themed restaurant with lush interior and amazing food. They serve some really good Rajasthani as well as North-Indian food. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there as it was an open restaurant and the weather was just perfect. Th food was like icing on dessert and it completely satisfied us.

All these were the amazing memories we cherished. But little did we know, the best experience was yet to come. Our last dinner destination was The Ambrai and boy was it wonderful. It's located on the edge of Lake Pichola and is lake-facing. It was the best fine-dining experience we had there. At night, all the lights from the forts are lit and give an amazing view as you dine-in on their amazing food. Everything we ordered, from starters to the main course, was a delight. As it was also an open restaurant, we could feel the wind stroking our hair as we had that amazing food. It was indeed a relishing experience.

We did miss a few other experiences like Upre, 1959 AD and not to forget The Sheesh Mahal. But I guess, that means we will have to soon visit it again. Comment on your favorite restaurants in Udaipur and also stay tuned for more blogs. Cheers!!
